A former Missouri Southern State University football player has pleaded guilty to charges in a crash that killed two of his teammates.
The Joplin Globe reports 21-year-old Jeremy Johnson, of Harrison, Ark., pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Jasper County Circuit Judge Gayle Crane scheduled sentencing for Aug. 19.
The December 2011 crash on Interstate 44 east of Joplin killed Diondre Johnson and Michael McCrimmons, both 19 and from Springfield. Johnson and a third passenger, Missouri Southern golfer Patrick Holt, of Benton, Ark., were injured.
The crash happened when the westbound SUV that Johnson was driving went into the median, overturned and was hit by an eastbound tractor-trailer. Authorities said Johnson had a blood-alcohol level of 0.11 at the time.
