Miami picked up one of their biggest needs in the class 2017, an experienced cornerback. Jhavonte Dean fits the role. Miami battled Alabama for his services. Originally a South Florida native, Dean returns home to Miami to play football for The U.

Rank – ESPN (3-Star, 127th in position), 247 Sports (4-Star, 2nd ranked Cornerback in Junior College), Rivals (4-Star, 8th ranked Junior College player)
Offers Alabama, Florida, Arizona State, TCU
Anaylsis – Good-sized CB with great strength and physicality. Possesses excellent length and exudes confidence. Uses 4.3 speed to close on routes by the wide receive. Fluid hips and very agile. Physical corner. Quick to close separation in one-on-one coverage and play the ball. Good 50-50 ball production due to length. Fits the Manny Diaz narrative.

Dean gives the Canes exceptional speed in teh defensive backfield He runs a  4.3 40. That aspect is crucial and will set him a part from the average cornerback. Expect Dean to play field corner this season due to his experiences and speed in coverage.

Perhaps one of the important pick-ups in the 2017 class, Dean will likely start at one of the corner spots to begin the season. Miami got a stud athlete who will make a difference right away.
