Maryland’s new uniforms are most patriotic in all of American sports

Patriotic uniform themes aren’t, themselves, new.

We see them every season from numerous programs.

And all of them are special in their own way, as they honor our servicemen and women.

But what Maryland has just come up with through Under Armour takes the idea to another level.

For starters, the entire "Defence of Fort McHenry" poem — which included the words to the "Star-Spangled Banner" — is written on the helmet and shoulders to honor the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key’s work.

The helmet’s logo is an outline of Fort McHenry, which defended Baltimore in the War of 1812. Maryland captains will wear red belts, as American military captains did during the battle.

Maryland will wear the uniforms this week against West Virginia. Here are some photos. Well done, Terps.
