(STATS) – Mike Schultz will debut as Lamar’s coach at North Texas and the Cardinals will play five home games as part of an 11-game 2017 schedule announced Monday.
“The start of a new season is always a special time around the country,” said Schultz, a career assistant who is a head coach for the first time. “We are ready to get camp started and make preparations for 2017. From the moment we were hired, we had to hit the recruiting trail, so the staff is ready to begin workouts with the team.”
The season opens at North Texas on Sept. 2 before the Cardinals host Texas-Permian Basin at Provost Umphrey Stadium on Sept. 9.
Lamar’s other home games are within the Southland Conference against Nicholls (Sept. 30), Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 28), Central Arkansas (Nov. 4) and McNeese (Nov. 18).
The Cardinals finished 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the Southland last season.
