Former Auburn star rips coaching staff after being dismissed: 'I was stereotyped

We got a little bit of surprising news from the college football world on Wednesday, when Auburn announced it had dismissed running back Jovon Robinson from the team. Robinson was the Tigers’ leading returning rusher, and given that Gus Malzahn could very well be entering a make-or-break year, it had to be assumed that Robinson did something pretty bad to get thrown off the squad.

Eventually, Malzahn shared a few small details with the media, providing the classic ‘he did not meet the standards of an Auburn football player’ response, before then adding that the team would have zero distractions this year.

Apparently, however, that answer wasn’t satisfactory for Robinson, the player who was actually kicked off the team. He spoke out to AL.com about his removal, and well, let’s just say he wasn’t happy.

Mercy! Think he’s a little bit mad?

It seems so, and the sad thing about this situation is that we probably never really will get the truth about what happened behind closed doors. Obviously Malzhan isn’t going to talk about it going forward -- few coaches ever do -- meaning that from here on out, we will likely will hear only Robinson’s side of the story. There are, of course, two sides, so it’s tough to know what really went on.

However, what’s also worth noting is that later in the article, it seems as though Auburn players were willing to take Malzahn’s side on the matter. When AL.com asked offensive lineman Austin Golson about the matter, here’s what he said:

"No one player is going to be able to take down our team," Golson said. "So I believe that we're going to respond well and just keep practicing. We have plenty of other options that will be able to help us out. I think we're all going to be fine."

Clearly, this is a he-said, she-said that will likely never truly be resolved. Auburn has moved on and it seems like Robinson is ready to as well, as he said he plans to try and finish his career at another school.

Eventually, Robinson summed up the whole thing best, admitting to AL.com ‘maybe it wasn’t meant to be.’
