Former Texas coach Charlie Strong has been hired by South Florida to take over as the team's new head coach, Sports Illustrated reports.

Strong will take over the USF program after three seasons with the Longhorns. He had an overall record of 16–21 at Texas and was fired after going 5-7 this season.

Strong will fill the void left by Willie Taggart, who left USF to coach at Oregon. Taggart spent three seasons as the Bulls' head coach and led them to a 10-2 record this season. USF will take on South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl on December 29.
