Outside of Auburn, no one was happier with Auburn’s stunning win over Alabama on Saturday than Ohio State. The Buckeyes had been sitting at No. 3 in the BCS standings going into the day. The top-ranked Crimson Tide’s loss will almost assuredly bump Ohio State into the top two, in line for a spot in the BCS title game, when the new rankings are released Sunday.
One intrepid journalist on the team was ready with camera rolling to catch the reaction as the players watched the dramatic end of the Iron Bowl while riding the team bus back to Columbus.
That journalist is Frank Epitropoulos, a redshirt freshman wide receiver from Upper Arlington in the Columbus area. The video is kind of dark, but it’s worth it for the audio alone:
That is the sound of a team that has won 24 straight games finally being in control of its own destiny for the BCS title game. A win over Michigan State next Saturday in the Big Ten Championship Game (8 p.m. ET, FOX) will likely clinch it.
It was almost no cause for celebration at all for Ohio State. The Buckeyes nearly blew their game earlier Saturday against arch-rival Michigan before stopping a 2-point conversion attempt in the final minute to hang on for a 42-41 win.
