Another preseason dark horse has made a big move in this race as we've moved into October with two sophomore QBs stepping way up.

J.T. Barrett, Ohio State, QB
I almost bumped Barrett out to bring back Deshaun Watson, but kept the Buckeye after an up-and-down weekend. The good news: he did produce 135 rushing yards on 24 carries against Indiana. The bad: he was just 9-for-21 for 93-yard and really struggled to connect on just about anything downfield. Still, his 15-3 TD-INT mark isn't bad.
Dalvin Cook, FSU, RB
I'm bringing Cook back in. I know he struggled earlier in the year, but he was again sensational in sparking the Noles to a win over arch-rival Miami and now he's averaging 188 all-purpose yards per game, despite playing one of the tougher schedules in the country so far.

Jabrill Peppers, Michigan, LB, DB
The Jersey native returned home to help the Wolverines blast Rutgers and Jim Harbaugh came away invoking the name of the legendary Jim Thorpe while trying to describe Peppers' greatness. He ran for 74 yards on just three carries with two touchdowns. He also had half a TFL and a QB pressure. In addition, he delivered a dazzling punt return, although that was nullified by a penalty. On the season, he has 10 TFLs and is averaging over 20 yards per touch.

Jake Browning, Washington, QB
He's vaulted into the mix after a couple of jaw-dropping performances by the Huskies over the past two weeks. Both Oregon and Stanford are down this year, but Browning's brilliance shouldn't be ignored. He's completing 72 percent of his passes and he has a strong 23-2 TD-INT ratio. Better still, in first half play -- before all these games turned into blowouts -- he's been at his best, completing 75 percent and throwing 15 TDs and no picks.

Lamar Jackson, Louisville, QB
The Cards were off, but the spectacular sophomore is still my clear top guy. He's averaging 138 rushing yards per game and a nation-best 14 TDs on the ground. Jackson also has 14 more touchdowns as a passer and a respectable 14-4 TD-INT ratio.
