Cliff Alexander is the No. 5 recruit on Scout.com’s list of 2014 prospects. The Chicago high schooler was considering home-state Illinois among his college finalists before announcing his decision Friday.
DePaul and Kansas were among the other possibilities for one of the tougher-to-call commitment choices of the college year. Scout had him pegged to go to Illinois.
At the customary pomp-and-circumstance press conference for such a moment, there just to his right were the hats bearing Illinois and Kansas logos. Alexander reached for one, and this happened:
After briefly picking up the Illinois hat, Alexander put it back down on the table before reaching over to grab the Kansas hat.
Oh my. Best part is his audio cuts out right as the ESPN reporter asks him why he did the bait-and-switch.
That won’t sit well with Illini fans. These gentlemen, in particular, were quite upset.
