Stanislaus State's Reynolds has Parkinson's, to co-coach

TURLOCK, Calif. (AP) Stanislaus State basketball coach Larry Reynolds announced Wednesday that he has Parkinson's disease and will remain with the Division II team as co-head coach with Paul Trevor.

''Having been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a few years ago, we felt it was in the best interest of the program to add another coach to the staff in the event I couldn't fulfill my duties and eventually to take over the program,'' Reynolds said. ''Paul Trevor is the perfect addition to our staff to fulfill that role. I want to thank everyone for their support while I continue my battle.''

Reynolds took over at Stanislaus State in 2009. He spent five years before that at Division I Long Beach State, and also coached at Cal State San Bernardino.

''About two years ago, Larry informed me of his diagnosis,'' Matoso said. ''We talked about it and came to this decision not only to create a succession plan but to publicly address his disease. So today we are doing both.''

Trevor spent the last seven seasons as head coach at San Francisco State.
