Rhode Island beats St. Bonaventure 74-63 in A-10 quarters

PITTSBURGH (AP) Hassan Martin had 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots, E.C. Matthews scored 20 points and Rhode Island pulled away in the second half for a 74-63 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Fourth-seeded Rhode Island (22-9), which has won six in a row, will play No. 9 seed Davidson in the semifinals on Saturday.

Matthews hit a 3-pointer that gave the Rams the lead for good with 16:49 to play. Kuran Iverson converted a 3-point play and then Martin made a layup to make it 54-43 about six minutes later and the Bonnies trailed by double figures the rest of the way. Iverson finished with nine rebounds and two blocks.

Jaylen Adams had 21 points, including three 3-pointers, for fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure (20-12). Matt Mobley, who came in second on the team in scoring at nearly 19 points per game, finished with eight points. The junior, who was 0-for-4 shooting, was held without a field goal for the first time since Feb. 8, 2014.

Rhode Island won both regular-season matchups with Davidson, including a 73-70 win in overtime on March 4.
