Kentucky Basketball: Fox Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Kentucky‘s De’Aaron Fox, following a career-high 24 points, to go with 10 assists and two steals in the exciting win over North Carolina, has been SEC Freshman of the Week. Along with teammate Malik Monk picking up SEC Player of the Week honors, the Wildcats have a full sweep of this week’s conference awards.

Fox’s performance marks his fourth double-double of the season, leading the Cats; Fox also has led the Cats in assists nine times this season. For the season, Fox leads the Wildcats with 79, putting him on pace to break the record most assists by a UK player in a season.

As Fox joins Monk with SEC honors this week, the Wildcats lead the league in such awards with five on the season. The Cats last swept conference Freshman and Player of the Week awards last season when Jamal Murray and Tyler Ulis took the honors.

Fox, who has started all 11 games for Kentucky, leads the team in assists (79) and is tied for second (15.9 points per game) with Isaiah Briscoe in scoring. The freshman is top in steals (19), and is currently third (5.3 per game) in rebounds.
