High Point’s fast start beats William Peace 88-71

HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) John Brown scored 10 of his team-high 16 points in the first five minutes, sparking High Point to a fast start that carried the team past Division III William Peace, 88-71 on Tuesday night.

Brown got to the basket for five layups as the Panthers took a 14-8 lead early and stretched it to 17-points, 49-32 by halftime. High Point got 30 of its 49 first-half points on layups and two more on a Lorenzo Cugini dunk.

The Panthers shot 67.9 percent from the floor (36 of 53) thanks in large part to how well the team got to the rim. They were just 1 of 9 from behind the arc.

Ryan Emfinger scored 15 points off the Pacers’ bench and Chris Thomas and Bryson Gibson each added 14. William Peace was 26 of 65 (40 percent) from the field.
