Early Thursday morning, the Red Sox traded pitcher John Lester and outfielder Jonny Gomes to the Athletics for outfielder Yoensis Cespedes.
Naturally, most of the post-deal chatter was about Lester, who is a free-agent after this season and Cespedes, who is a rising star.
Lost in the all the discussion, though, was Boston losing a player who has given baseball fans many memorable photos.
Not only did Gomes wear the beard and tattoos well, but his penchant for dressing up in various items from helmets to robes to anything decorated in stars and stripes was downright inspiring.
So, without further ado, here are the 10* best pictures of Jonny Gomes as a Red Sox. (*Technically, No. 5 is David Ortiz holding a cutout of Gomes' face, so we're counting it as a Gomes photo.)
