There's never a dull moment with social media and sports.
Early Tuesday, the four-year anniversary of ESPN airing LeBron James' "The Decision," Cleveland TV station, WEWS NewsChannel5 sent out the following tweet.
A headline on the story linked by the WEWS said, "NewsChannel5 replaying 'Decision' special at 10 AM."
Obviously, this infuriated a lot of Cavaliers fans, who couldn't understand why a local station would re-air LeBron James announcing that he was leaving Cleveland.
@WEWS This wasn't a smart idea.— Source (@YesImKayla) July 8, 2014
@WEWS Um not like I care but..for the fans why would you put them through this again. I mean really. The guy said f Cleveland in this.— Psychic Christine (@PsychichealerC) July 8, 2014
Who's the genius that thought this would be a good idea? RT @WEWS WATCH: Replay of “The Decision” NewsChannel5 Special on 4-year anniversary— SusieB (@Susie_B_) July 8, 2014
However, when the Buzzer called WEWS to find out the thinking behind this move, Director of Media, Colleen Seitz, told us that "The Decision" was only being reaired on the station's website and not their television network.
Naturally, this confused some sites and blogs, which reported that the station re-aired the show on televsion.
Seitz also told us that she was not aware of any backlash to the stations decision to highlight "The Decision."
We have a feeling that will change.
