Highlights in the career of David Moyes, who will take charge as manager of Manchester United from July 1 on a 6-year deal:

1963 - Born April 25 in Glasgow, Scotland.

1980 - Signs as a professional with Celtic.

1982 - Wins Scottish Premier League winner's medal.

1983 - Moves to England and joins Cambridge United.

1985 - Joins Bristol City.

1987 - Joins Shrewsbury.

1990 - Returns to Scotland to join Dunfermline.

1993 - Joins Preston.

1996 - Appointed assistant to manager Gary Peters at Preston.

1998 - Takes over as Preston manager.

2000 - Wins third-tier league title.

2002 - Becomes Everton manager as replacement for Walter Smith and escapes relegation in first season.

2003 - Named League Managers' Association manager of the year.

2004 - After avoiding relegation, sells striker Wayne Rooney to Manchester United in a deal worth up to 27 million pounds (now $35 million).

2005 - Breaks the big four in the Premier League by guiding Everton to fourth place above city rival Liverpool and a place in the Champions League, earning him LMA manager of the year award for the second time. Everton loses to Villarreal in final qualifying round, Moyes' only taste of Champions League action.

2007 - Guides Everton into the UEFA Cup with a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, but team is knocked out in last 16.

2008 - Signs new 5-year contract at Everton.

2009 - Loses FA Cup final against Chelsea after beating Manchester United in semifinals.

2012 - Everton finishes above Liverpool in the Premier League for the first time in seven years.

2013 - Signs 6-year deal to take over as manager of Manchester United.
