Rattlers dominate Salt Lake, move 1 game in front of division rivals

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Rattlers moved a game in front of their rivals in the Indoor Football League's Intense Conference with a 63-33 victory over the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles on Saturday in front of 15,478 at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

The Rattlers improved to 8-4 with their fourth consecutive victory to move a game up on the Spokane Empire (7-5) and Nebraska Danger (7-5) with four games left in the regular season. Salt Lake fell to 3-9.

"We are just going to keep building on what we have been doing here lately," head coach Kevin Guy said. "We control our own destiny."

Quarterback Cory Sokol completed 8 of 13 passes for 102 yards and accounted for five touchdowns (four passes and one run). Darrell Monroe ran for 92 yards and one touchdown on nine carries, and Jamal Miles had two touchdown receptions.

Defensively, the Rattlers recorded five sacks, eight tackles for loss, and seven pass breakups. Linebacker Justin Shirk led the defense with 6 ½ tackles, including 2 ½ sacks.

Verlon Reed had 228 passing yards and four touchdown passes for the Screaming Eagles.

The Rattlers broke open the game with three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter -- touchdown passes of 21 and 20 yards from Sokol to Miles, and a 3-yard scoring run by Anthony Amos.

The Rattlers return to action on Sunday at 3 p.m., hosting the Nebraska Danger at 3 p.m. The game can be seen on FOX Sports Arizona.
