MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Olympic champion Tyler Clary won the 400-meter individual medley and 200 backstroke, and fellow gold medalists Natalie Coughlin and Nathan Adrian took the 50 freestyle races Friday night in the Arena Grand Prix.
Clary opened the night at Skyline Aquatic Center with a convincing win in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4 minutes, 24.90 seconds, and took the 200 back in 1:58.13.
"I was really happy I was able to pull off the double win tonight," Clary said. "I definitely didn't think I was going to be able to pull off the (200 back) after the 400 IM, but I did and I'm very happy with that."
