GLENDALE, Ariz. – Former Vancouver Canucks assistant coach Newell Brown has joined Dave Tippett's coaching staff of the Phoenix Coyotes, signing a multi-year contract. He replaces John Anderson on Tippett's staff.

“Newell has a wealth of experience and brings a very positive, upbeat attitude to our hockey club," general manager Don Maloney said. "His primary focus will be our power play and creating more offensive opportunities in our games."

Brown, 51, spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach for the Canucks. He held previous assistant coaching positions with the Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks, dating back to 1996.

He was a head coach for three seasons at Michigan Tech and four seasons with the Adirondack Red Wings of the AHL.
