A former defensive back at Tennessee, Charles Davis is the lead college football analyst for FOX Sports.
With Week 1 of the college season in the books, Charles Davis unveils the first edition of his weekly power rankings. Among the movers and shakers are Georgia (down) and Washington (up).
1 Alabama Crimson Tide 1-0
Not their best game, but the Crimson Tide still won by four TDs. They have a bye next week before heading to Aggie Land for a date with "Johnny Football."
2 Stanford Cardinal 0-0 +2
The Cardinal did not play last week and instead begin their season this week at home against San Jose State – and the Spartans always challenge Stanford.
3 Oregon Ducks 1-0
For those worried that Chip Kelly's departure would alter the Ducks’ attack, worry no more.
4 Clemson Tigers 1-0 +4
A thrilling, gritty win over another big, bad SEC foe in Georgia. Quarterback Tajh Boyd is sensational.
5 South Carolina Gamecocks 1-0 +1
A good opening win over North Carolina keyed by defense and a running game. The Gamecocks are at Georgia this week.
6 Ohio State Buckeyes 1-0 -4
The Buckeyes had a big win against Buffalo, 40-20, and running back Jordan Hall ran for 159 yards and two TDs.
7 Texas A&M Aggies 1-0
The Aggies had to play a lot of backups and youngsters … and, yes, Johnny Manziel returned.
8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1-0 +6
Solid opener against Temple, and now the Irish go to Michigan this week for a big one.
9 Oklahoma State Cowboys 1-0 +4
The quarterback discussion aside ( JW Walsh will start this week), the Cowboys’ defense was terrific against Mississippi State.
10 Louisville Cardinals 1-0 +1
Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (5 TD passes) and the Cardinals came out of the gate flying.
11 LSU Tigers 1-0 +1
The Tigers beat a good TCU team with their offense -- that could be a new style for the Tigers in 2013.
12 Michigan Wolverines 1-0 +5
The Wolverines smashed Central Michigan and now await traditional rival Notre Dame this week.
13 Florida Gators 1-0 +3
After beating a good Toledo team in the heat, the Gators are off to Miami to take on the Hurricanes.
14 Oklahoma Sooners 1-0 +2
New quarterback Trevor Knight can run, giving OU a new dimension on offense just in time as West Virginia visits this week to open Big 12 play.
15 UCLA Bruins 1-0 +6
The Bruins found their groove on offense against Nevada -- quarterback Brett Hundley is marvelous.
16 Texas Longhorns 1-0 +1
Quarterback David Ash and the Longhorns rolled New Mexico State and now face a dangerous BYU team on the road.
17 Florida State Seminoles 1-0 +6
Freshman quarterback Jameis Winston could not have started his career much better – 25-of-27 for 356 yards and four TDs against Pitt.
18 Wisconsin Badgers 1-0 +5
Head Coach Gary Andersen's debut went just fine, and "Bucky" had three runners over the century mark.
19 Northwestern Wildcats 1-0 +3
An excellent win for the Wildcats as they went west and beat a tough Cal team.
20 Washington Huskies 1-0 +6
The Huskies returned to their refurbished home stadium and looked impressive in beating a good Boise State team 38-6.
21 Georgia Bulldogs 0-1 -16
I feel guilty dropping the Bulldogs this far after a close loss on the road to Clemson. They can bounce back big at home against South Carolina.
22 Arizona State Sun Devils 0-0 +5
The Sun Devils didn’t play in Week 1 – they open head coach Todd Graham's second year Thursday night at home against Sacramento State.
23 Baylor Bears 1-0 +5
New starting quarterback Bryce Petty got off to a nice start, and running back Lache Seastrunk ran it as he did at the end of 2012.
24 Mississippi Rebels 1-0 +5
In less than two full seasons, head coach Hugh Freeze has Mississippi buzzing and legitimately dreaming of big things.
25 Texas Christian Horned Frogs 0-1 -5
After a tough loss to LSU in the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, the Horned Frogs are looking to get right against Southeastern Louisiana this weekend.
