The Diamondbacks reinstated shortstop Didi Gregorius from the seven-day disabled list on Saturday and optioned outfielder Alfredo Marte to Triple-A Reno.
The 23-year-old Gregorius sustained a mild concussion after being struck in the head by a pitch from the Rockies’ Josh Outman on April 26. He has hit safely in all seven games he’s played in this season, hitting .407 with four doubles, two homers and two RBI.
Marte was a late addition to the Opening Day roster due to injuries to outfielders Adam Eaton and Cody Ross. The 24-year-old hit .186 with three doubles and four RBI in 22 games in the majors. The D-backs would prefer that he get everyday at-bats, and with Ross now back in the fold and three other outfielders ahead of him on the depth chart, Marte would be
the fifth outfielder on a team that usually carries four.
