Glendale First!: Coyotes referendum petitions ‘invalid’

The Glendale First! political action committee released a report Monday claiming that the petition for a referendum on Glendale’s lease agreement with the Coyotes is “invalid” and “fatally flawed.”

The group seeking to force a referendum has until Friday to collect 6,956 valid signatures. Glendale First! said it has completed an in-depth investigation and determined that “all signatures collected thus far are invalid” due to multiple errors on the petition sheets.

“While we applaud the democratic process that allows such referendum attempts, we feel it is clear, by their refusal to support any of the three referendum attempts, the voters of Glendale have presented a mandate supporting an arena management agreement that includes the Coyotes hockey team as an anchor tenant for the city owned arena,” Darrin Lacey, treasurer of Glendale First! said.
