's college football power rankings

Georgia, Oklahoma make big jumps in power rankings after impressive wins; ASU returns at No. 24.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide    4-0     --

The Tide ran it well against Ole Miss, especially T.J. Yeldon, and held the Rebels' "super speed" offense to only 46 yards rushing. Alabama is still The One.

2. Stanford Cardinal    4-0     --

Stanford is more explosive than it’s given credit for. The Cardinal have a huge game at home against Washington this Saturday.

3. Oregon Ducks    4-0     --

Someone told me Saturday that they felt Cal could play with Oregon. The Ducks emphatically disagreed. Colorado, you're next.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes    5-0     --

Braxton Miller threw for 281 yards and four TDs in his return against Wisconsin, and now the Bucks head to Evanston for a date with No. 17 Northwestern (No. 16 in AP poll).

5. Clemson Tigers    4-0     --

QB Tajh Boyd hit Wake Forest for 311 yards and three TDs before retiring for the day and getting prepped for a trip to Syracuse this week.

6. Georgia Bulldogs    3-1     +4

Wins over South Carolina and LSU get my attention, and the loss at Clemson was so close. The Bulldogs now go to Knoxville to face Tennessee.

7. Oklahoma Sooners    4-0     +6

By beating Notre Dame, the Sooners had the most impressive win of Week 5, in my humble opinion. Oklahoma’s defense is back.

8. Louisville Cardinals    4-0     -2

The Cardinals were off this past week, and now they must go to Temple and put a big number on the Owls to keep everyone's attention.

9. Texas A&M Aggies    4-1     --

The Aggies got their ninth straight road win by beating Arkansas and will try to make it 10 straight at Ole Miss this week.

10. UCLA Bruins    3-0     +1

The Bruins took a well-deserved and needed weekend off, and now they head to Salt Lake City to play a dangerous Utah team Thursday night.

11. LSU Tigers    4-1     -4

A three-point loss at Georgia is not enough to drop the Tigers in a big way, but their defense did give up 494 yards to the ‘Dawgs.

12. South Carolina Gamecocks    3-1     --

The Gamecocks got past UCF on the road, but there is concern about QB Connor Shaw's shoulder injury, which will sideline him for a couple weeks.

13. Florida State Seminoles    4-0     +1

QB Jameis Winston sent everyone to their thesaurus again this weekend at Boston College, as we have to find different ways to describe the super frosh, especially his Doug Flutie impersonation.

14. Miami (FL) Hurricanes    4-0     +1
The Hurricanes had an easy one at USF and are off to their best start since beginning the 2004 season 6-0, but QB Stephen Morris hurt his ankle again.

15. Washington Huskies    4-0     +1

RB Bishop Sankey's name is beginning to register, as he had 40 carries for 161 yards and a TD against Arizona in Week 5. The Huskies are at Stanford on Saturday.

16. Michigan Wolverines    4-0     +1

The Wolverines were off in Week 5, but head coach Brady Hoke is trying to figure out why his team has played down to its competition so far this season.

17. Northwestern Wildcats    4-0     +1

The Wildcats were able to rest and study this past week with no game. Now they get ready for some fun, as the Buckeyes are coming this weekend!

18. Baylor Bears    3-0     +2

The Bears had their second open date in three weeks. They face upset-minded West Virginia in Waco on Saturday.

19. Florida Gators    3-1     +2

As a defensive minded head coach, Will Muschamp must have enjoyed the Gators’ throttling of Kentucky last weekend. They get Arkansas at home in Week 6.

20. Fresno State Bulldogs    4-0     +3

The Bulldogs almost let a huge lead get away at Hawaii but survived. Now they head to Idaho this week. That scheduling is just not right.

21. Texas Tech Red Raiders    4-0     +4

The Red Raiders will likely be 5-0, as they head to Kansas this week. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury's defense is setting the tone. Yes, the defense.

22. Northern Illinois Huskies    4-0     --

NIU and the "Jordan Lynch for 6" Heisman campaign have wins at Iowa and Purdue to so far, becoming the first MAC team to beat two Big Ten teams in the same regular season. The Huskies could run the table.

23. Oklahoma State Cowboys    3-1     -15

Yes, I know this is a big drop for the Cowboys, but that loss at a struggling West Virginia team was shocking.

24. Arizona State Sun Devils    3-1     +2

The Sun Devils got off the deck after losing to Stanford and put a big number on USC, which ended up costing Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin his job.

25. Mississippi Rebels    3-1     -3

The Rebels were shut out at No. 1 Alabama, but they have a chance for redemption this week at Auburn.
