A former defensive back at Tennessee, Charles Davis is the lead college football analyst for FOX Sports.
There's movement in the top 10, plus USC gets into Charles Davis' latest top 25 rankings after pummeling Cal last weekend on the road. See who rose and fell this week and hit Charles on Twitter with your thoughts.
1 Alabama Crimson Tide 9-0
Still the one! Who knew that Nick Saban would "out-Hat the Hatter" with a third-quarter fake punt? The Tide are off to Mississippi State on Saturday.
2 Florida State Seminoles 9-0 +1
This could very well be the best team in the country, and now the Seminoles are in perfect position to prove it if they win out. Syracuse is next.
3 Baylor Bears 8-0 +1
Proved their "bona fides" against a name opponent in Oklahoma -- and in a BIG way. Texas Tech in Arlington, Texas, is next as the Big 12 gauntlet rolls on.
4 Stanford Cardinal 8-1 +2
Yes, did you see what the Cardinal did to Oregon? "Nerd Nation" packs a punch. Their tough schedule continues at resurgent USC on Saturday.
5 Ohio State Buckeyes 9-0
This team took the weekend off to heal, and get better, and it will continue to show up on the field. Have Illinois next, but next real challenge? Likely the Big Ten title game (if it's Michigan State).
6 Oregon Ducks 8-1 -4
Stanford … sigh. But all is not lost. If Oregon wins out and Stanford loses once, the Ducks are back in the Pac-12 picture (and maybe BCS title, too).
7 Auburn Tigers 9-1 +2
This team continues to impress. Head coach Gus Malzahn was the perfect cure for the previously struggling Tigers. Big one against Georgia on Saturday.
8 Clemson Tigers 8-1
Thursday night special this week against Georgia Tech. Tigers might not win the ACC but could easily get a BCS berth, too. Enjoy Tajh Boyd's final games in college.
9 Missouri Tigers 9-1 +1
Quite simply, these Tigers are for real. Upcoming challenges include at Ole Miss and home against Texas A&M, while South Carolina eagerly awaits a stumble.
10 Oklahoma State Cowboys 8-1 +2
This team is getting better with back-to-back offensive explosions. Huge test at Texas on Saturday. The winner controls its fate in the Big 12.
11 Michigan State Spartans 8-1 +5
Best defense in the country plays for Legends division title at suddenly hopeful Nebraska on Saturday. Will the offense show up, too?
12 Texas A&M Aggies 8-2 +1
"One more year" was the chant to Johnny Football on Saturday. We'll see later if it worked. This weekend is open, and then the Aggies visit LSU.
13 South Carolina Gamecocks 7-2 +1
No game last week and host reeling Florida this Saturday. QB Connor Shaw got some needed, and deserved, rest. TOUGH GUY.
14 Wisconsin Badgers 7-2 +3
The Badgers are a disputed-play loss at Arizona State away from likely being ranked in the top 10. New head coach Gary Andersen fits very well in Madison. Indiana at home this week.
15 UCLA Bruins 7-2 +4
Gutty win at Arizona keeps the Bruins on a collision course with Arizona State for the Pac-12 South title. Host a talented Washington team on Friday.
16 Central Florida Knights 7-1 +2
The dream of a BCS berth is becoming more real after a hard-fought win over Houston. Be careful at Temple on Saturday, Knights.
17 Louisville Cardinals 8-1 +3
Pounded hapless UConn and now host Houston, which should challenge the Cardinals. QB Teddy Bridgewater really is a special player.
18 Arizona State Sun Devils 7-2 +4
Character win on the road at Utah -- the same place Stanford could not navigate. Now the Sun Devils host QB Sean Mannion and Oregon State on Saturday.
19 Oklahoma Sooners 7-2 -12
Not quite the Oklahoma that we have come to expect, but still talented. Expect some frustration to be taken out on Iowa State this weekend.
20 Northern Illinois Huskies 9-0 +1
We know about QB Jordan Lynch (truly legit). Now it's THE game of the year in the MAC against Ball State on Wednesday. BIG GAME.
21 Fresno State Bulldogs 9-0 +2
The Bulldogs are controlling the MWC and are battling to be a BCS buster. QB Derek Carr keeps racking up the numbers -- and wins.
22 LSU Tigers 7-3 -6
I know the Tigers have three losses -- all on the road to Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss. In head coach Les Miles logic, they're "undefeated in Tiger Stadium!" Texas A&M in two weeks is next.
23 USC Trojans 7-3 (unranked last week)
Saw this team with my own eyes on Saturday, and while Cal is beyond struggling, SC was very impressive. Stanford comes calling on Saturday.
24 Miami Hurricanes 7-2 -13
Stunned by Virginia Tech at home, it was the second straight loss for the Canes. At Duke Saturday. Are the Blue Devils the better team right now?
25 Texas Longhorns 7-2 (unranked last week)
Not easy to win at West Virginia, and the resilient Longhorns got it done. Their Big 12 goal is still out there.
