D-backs name wrestler Luchador an official mascot

D-backs Luchador named an official team mascot, joining bobcat D. Baxter.

The D-backs Luchador has gone from unofficial fan favorite to official team mascot.

On Thursday, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that wrestler D-backs Luchador was added as an official mascot, joining bobcat D. Baxter, who has been the team's mascot since its inception.

The D-backs Luchador was created following last year's overwhelmingly popular team giveaway of a Lucha Libre mask, which was later followed by a Lucha Libre wrestling match. With the masks a regular item in the crowd at D-backs games, the Luchador began appearing at games this season and proved popular.

He speaks fluent Spanish and English, and when not pumping up the Chase Field crowd, he wrestles with Club Deportivo Coliseo in Glendale.

The Diamondbacks said in a release that they will give away 20,000 Lucha Libre masks to fans attending the Saturday, July 27 game against the Padres.
