Coyotes’ Murphy picked for U.S. junior team

USA Hockey announced Tuesday that Connor Murphy, the Coyotes’ first round draft selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, has been selected to USA Hockey’s 23-player National Junior Team Roster.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound defenseman has played in 28 games for the Sarnia Sting (OHL) this season and has recorded goals, nine assists, a plus-8 rating and 28 penalty minutes. He had eight goals and 18 assists in 35 games with Sarnia last season.

The 19-year-old Murphy and the 2013 U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship through Jan. 5 in Ufa, Russia.
