Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick breaks finger, hopes to return by training camp

Orlando Scandrick will miss the remainder of organized team activities and minicamp because of a broken finger but hopes to be cleared by the start of training camp in late July.

Scandrick underwent surgery to repair the index finger on his left hand Tuesday evening. The cornerback was told after the surgery that the damage was more severe than initially thought.

Scandrick used the word shattered to describe the finger and said it will be three to four weeks before the pin that was inserted will be removed.

“I don’t see myself catching any balls until camp starts,” said Scandrick, who kept a scheduled appearance at a basketball game to benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters on Wednesday, even though he was unable to play.

Scandrick suffered the injury in OTAs on Tuesday when he broke up a pass from Jon Kitna to Manuel Johnson. Three fingers on his left hand went numb, and he didn’t realize until later in the day when the pain in his index finger increased that something was wrong.

Also, the Cowboys signed tight end Kevin Brock on Wednesday, a day after he was released by the Chicago Bears.
