Neither Connor Wood nor Case McCoy has an edge in their personal competition to win the backup quarterback job at Texas.

Coach Mack Brown characterized the two true freshmen as “dead even” going into the start of practice today.

The spotlight shifted to Wood and McCoy after senior Sherrod Harris announced Friday that he would forgo his final year of eligibility to concentrate on finishing his degree in corporate communications.

“With Sherrod’s decision, we probably had two freshmen quarterbacks that were a little anxious when they went to sleep last night because their lives changed,” Brown said. “Now they have to start competing on an equal basis [Sunday] for their second-team spot. It will be a tremendous amount of urgency at that position to get one of those two or both of those guys ready to go.”
