The Cardinals on Friday were awarded a waiver claim on defensive tackle Christian Tupou, who was let go Thursday by the 49ers.
The 25-year-old Tupou played in five games with the Bears as a rookie last season and had three tackles. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder entered the league as an undrafted rookie free agent after playing collegiately at USC and split his rookie season between Chicago’s active roster and practice squad. He spent a week on the Colts practice squad in the postseason before signing with the 49ers.
At USC, Tupou played in 42 career games and had 53 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
The Cardinals did not take a defensive tackle in last week’s NFL draft.
