TUCSON, Ariz. – For the 27th consecutive season, the Arizona softball team will participate in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats will be playing in the College Station Regional, as announced Sunday night, with Texas A&M, the No. 16 team overall, as the region’s top seed.
Arizona (32-24, 9-15 Pac-12) will open the tournament against Baylor (39-15, 9-8 Big 12) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Texas A&M (39-15, 10-13 SEC) will open against Penn (30-18, 16-4 Ivy League). All games in the College Station Regional will be televised on the ESPN networks.
Arizona will open on the road for the eighth time in the tournament’s first round and the first time since 2009. UA is 151-45 in postseason play and 78-6 in the regional round.
The Wildcats are 14-4 in their history against the Bears and 25-12 against the Aggies; Arizona and Penn have never played.
