TUCSON -- Pitchers Shelby Babcock and Estela Pinon held UTEP to one hit and freshman Katiyana Mauga hit her first-career grand slam to lead Arizona to an 11-1 win over the Miners on Tuesday night at Hillenbrand Stadium.
UTEP's only hit was a solo home run by Colleen Hohman off Babcock (4-0) in the second inning. Babcock did not walk a batter in three innings of work, and Pinon worked the final two innings and allowed only one additional base runner â a one-out walk in the fifth. Arizona improved to 14-1, while UTEP fell to 6-10.
The Wildcats sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six times in the first inning, capped by Maugaâs third home run of the season.
Chelsea Goodacre (2 for 3, 2 RBI) and Alex Lavine (2 for 2, 1 RBI) also had big nights at the plate for the Wildcats, who took advantage of eight walks and two UTEP errors.
