Today's starting pitchers: RHP Zack Godley (3-2, 5.24) vs. LHP Jonathon Niese (8-6, 5.20). . . . Storylines: The D-backs go for their second consecutive Chase Field series win as they close a quick 3-game homestand against the Mets. That's no small feat in a season in which they've gone 20-40 in front of their home fans. They've won only 5 of 19 series at Chase thus far. A cautionary note: They are winless at home in Wednesday games -- 0 for 10. . . . Watch: 6 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports GO; 6:30 p.m. (Espanol), FOX Sports Arizona Plus.
D-backs starting pitcher Zack Godley
Godley returns to the rotation in place of left-hander Patrick Corbin, who's been sent to the bullpen to work on some things. Godley has made 5 starts this season, most recently on Aug. 3 against Washington, when he gave up 4 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings. In 3 relief appearances since then, he's pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs and no walks while striking out 4.

Mets starting pitcher Jonathon Niese
Niese makes his first start of the season for the Mets after spending the bulk of the campaign in the Pirates rotation. But it's not exactly a new experience for him -- he spent the first 8 years of his career with the Mets before being traded this off-season for second baseman Neil Walker. Consider that deal a big win for New York. . . . Niese started for Pittsburgh against the D-backs back on April 22 at Chase and was roughed up for 10 hits and 4 runs over 5 1/3 innings but got credit for the victory in an 8-7 game. In 10 career appearances vs. Arizona (8 starts), he is 4-3 with a 6.94 ERA.

Welcome to the bigs, kid
Mitch Haniger had a triple and a double and drove in 3 runs in making his major-league debut for the D-backs in left field on Tuesday night. He'll be back in the lineup tonight, but shifting over to center field. . . . Flanking him in right field will be Yasmany Tomas, who homered in each of the first two games of the series and 10 home runs in his last 18 games, dating back to July 24 -- more than any player in the National League. Tomas' season total of 23 is one short of Jake Lamb's team-leading total.

Foot on the gas
The D-backs stole 4 more bases against the Mets on Tuesday -- giving them 19 in 5 games this season. Don't look for them to slow down tonight. . . . Jean Segura has 9 hits in the 5 games and 5 steals in 6 attempts. He's fourth in the NL with 24 stolen bases.
Up next: San Diego Padres
The D-backs take the short flight to San Diego after tonight's game for a 4-game series against the Padres. . . . San Diego has pretty much scrapped its entire starting rotation since the start of the season and will send Paul Clemens (2-2, 4.73), Jarred Cosart (0-1, 5.03), Clayton Richard (0-2, 5.75) and Luis Perdomo (5-7, 6.68) to the mound against the D-backs.
