D-backs vs. Braves, 6 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona D-backs vs. Braves, 6 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona
Today's starting pitchers: RHP Zack Godley (4-2, 4.85) vs. RHP Mike Foltynewicz (6-5, 4.45). . . . Storylines: All eyes will be on the Chase Field debut of Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson. Swanson was selected by the D-backs with the first pick in the 2015 draft, only to be shipped out to Atlanta in the off-season as the centerpiece of 3-player package for starting pitcher Shelby Miller. It was a win-now acquisition for the D-backs, and a building-for-the-future move by the Braves. Except that Swanson has already made the rapid climb to the major leagues, while Miller has struggled mightily and is trying to figure things out at Triple-A Reno. The D-backs believe that Miller will return to the success levels he had at Atlanta and St. Louis before that, but suffice to say, the Braves are pleased with their end of the deal. . . . Watch: 6 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports GO.
D-backs starting pitcher Zack Godley
Godley returned to the starting rotation last week in place of struggling Patrick Corbin and was the winning pitcher in a 13-5 victory over the Mets -- going a career-best 7 1/3 innings while giving up 5 hits and 2 runs. . . . Godley has an 8-3 record in 13 career starts.

Braves starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz
Foltynewicz got a no-decision in his last start on Wednesday against Minnesota, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs in 5 innings while striking out 7. He won at Washington and St. Louis in the two starts before that. . . . He's 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 3 career starts against the D-backs, but he had a stellar outing against Arizona on May 8. In a game the Braves would lose 5-3 in 11 innings, Foltynewicz gave up 5 hits, no walks and 2 runs in 7 innings innings while striking out 8.

Introducing Dansby Swanson
Swanson was called up from Double-A on Aug. 17 and handed the starting shortstop reins. In 4 games since, he's 4 for 16 at the plate with a double and a walk. He wasn't exactly tearing up the minor leagues -- batting .261 with 8 home runs at Double-A -- but the Braves think enough about his readiness to have traded Erick Aybar to Detroit. With the Braves clearly building for the future, they're convinced that the polished, mature Swanson will benefit from a steady exposure to major-league pitching.

Hot Beef, cold Lamb
Welington Castillo is 11 for 21 (.524) and has hit in all 5 games he's played since returning to the active roster following the birth of his son Jeremiah. . . . Jean Segura, thanks to a 5-hit game on Friday, is 14 for his last 29 (.483) with 4 doubles, a home run, 5 steals, 5 runs and 5 RBI over his last 7 games. . . . And Paul Goldschmidt is 9 for 23 with 11 walks and 10 runs scored in his last 7 games, but he's found it difficult getting pitches to hit with men on base. He's gone 11 games without an RBI and has homered just once since July 25. . . . Pitchers have found it easier to treat Goldschmidt delicately because of Jake Lamb's extended slump. Lamb is 2 for 42 (.048) with no extra-base hits over the past two weeks with 17 strikeouts.
Meekly go the Braves
The Braves rank last in the major leagues in runs scored (451), home runs (85) and slugging percentage (.365). . . . Freddie Freeman, who has 24 of their home runs, sat out Sunday's game after needing a cortisone shot for a finger injury in his right hand, but he's hoping to be back in the lineup. . . . Ender Inciarte, acquired along with Swanson in the Miller deal, has been their second most effective hitter with a .270 average and 11 stolen bases. . . . Matt Kemp has two home runs in 19 games since being acquired from the Padres, but he's homered 3 times in 9 games against the D-backs this year, including twice at Chase Field.
