Today's starting pitchers: RHP Shelby Miller (2-10, 6.81) vs. RHP Ross Stripling (3-6, 4.15). . . . Storylines: Miller will be looking to build upon last week's promising outing vs. the Giants following his return from the minor leagues, but he'll have to do it against a Dodgers' lineup that has cranked up the power in recent weeks. . . . Watch: 6:30 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports GO.
D-backs starting pitcher Shelby Miller
Miller saw plenty to be encouraged about despite taking the loss on Wednesday in San Francisco, his first start since being recalled from Triple-A. He gave up 2 runs in the first inning but then held the Giants scoreless for the next 5 -- surrendering a total of 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3. . . . "He knew how to control the tempo and the situation in the game," catcher Welington Castillo said. "He seemed like a different guy. I think it's going to be way better for him now." . . . Miller is 1-1 with a 6.57 ERA in 5 career appearances (3 starts) vs. the Dodgers. Adrian Gonzalez is 4 for 7 with a home run and 4 RBI in his career vs. Miller.

Dodgers starting pitcher Ross Stripling
Stripling is winless in his last 4 starts, giving up 28 hits and 13 runs over 23 innings (5.09 ERA). He worked 6 innings in his most recent start against Colorado last Wednesday, giving up 3 runs and 9 hits in a 7-0 loss. . . . The Dodgers have been shut out in his last 2 starts and have scored just 5 times in his last 4. . . . Stripling's second major league start came against the D-backs on April 14 -- a 5-2 Los Angeles victory. He was not involved in the decision while giving up 2 runs and 5 hits over 6 innings.

House of horrors
Zack Greinke's disastrous start against the Dodgers on Monday night was a continuation of what has become commonplace in recent years. The D-backs haven't won a series at Dodger Stadium since June of 2013 -- going 7-22 over that span and 2-5 so far this year. . . . Joc Pederson's home run off Greinke was his 20th of the season -- joining teammates Justin Turner (25), Corey Seager (24) and Yasmani Grandal (24) with 20-plus. Turner has 4 against the D-backs this year; Seager has 3. . . . The Dodgers have a .454 slugging percentage since the All-Star break, compared with .393 before.

No slowing C.O.
Shortstop Chris Owings was the lone offensive bright spot on Monday with 2 hits -- his fourth consecutive multi-hit game. Owings has 14 hits in his last 27 at-bats (.519) to raise his average to .290 and is hitting .328 since taking over as the regular shortstop on July 29. . . . Paul Goldschmidt is 2 for 22 on the current road trip after going hitless on Monday. But Goldy's 24 career homers and 74 RBI vs. the Dodgers are more than he's had against any other opponent -- and he's been especially proficient at Dodger Stadium -- 14 homers and a .331 average in 43 games.
