David is Goliath
Rookie outfielder David Peralta generated quite a buzz last weekend -- stealing home one night and hitting a grand slam the next will do that. He is hardly a one-weekend warrior. Since his promotion June 1, Peralta is slashing .313/.347/.486 with 12 doubles, five home runs and 29 RBI, and his OPS (.833) is the highest among NL rookies. Look out, Billy Hamilton. The NL rookie of the year could get very interesting.
Remember this guy?
In the end, the Didi Gregorius-Trevor Bauer trade -- those were the principles -- will be judged on Bauer's long-term success. Bauer was 1-2 with a 6.06 ERA in four starts with the Dbacks before the three-team deal that sent him to Cleveland in the winter of 2012. He is 5-9 with a 4.63 ERA in 21 starts since, about a half-point above the AL average. The D-backs will face him for the first time Wednesday.

David Peralta is hardly the only one of the D-backs' NL-high 16 rookies to make a successful immersion. Chris Owings is second in doubles (15) and WAR (1.8, according to Fangraphs) despite missing the last six weeks with a slight shoulder dislocation. Ender Inciarte, who has a 10-game hitting streak, is third in WAR (1.4) among position players. Right-hander Chase Anderson is tied for the league lead in victories (7) and is second in strikeouts (69) among rookie pitchers.
Led by left fielder Michael Brantley, third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall and catcher Yan Gomes, the Indians can hit. They are sixth in the AL in runs. At his current pace, Brantley should finish among the top 10 in AL MVP voting. But outside of right-hander Corey Kluber, consistent starting pitching has been missing. Supposed No. 1 starter Justin Masterson was traded to St. Louis at the deadline. Bauer's 10 quality starts are second on the team.
