Friday -- Dodgers 8, D-backs 0; long ball dooms D-backs. Saturday -- Dodgers 5, D-backs- 4; Arizona lets late lead slip away. Sunday -- RHP Chase Anderson (0-1, 4.24) vs. LHP Brett Anderson (1-1, 5.49), 12:30 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona.
Nos. 1-2 hitters Ender Inciarte and A.J. Pollock are getting on base, exactly what the D-backs need from the top of the order. Inciarte and Pollock rank in the top 20 in batting average and in the top 16 in runs scored. With the table-setters doing exactly that, Nos. 3-4 hitters Paul Goldschmidt and Mark Trumbo have had plenty of chances to use their thump. Goldschmidt is working on a streak of three straight three-hit games, and Trumbo has four extra-base hits and five RBI in the last three games.

Tomas settling in
Yasmany Tomas is finding a comfort level while getting more playing time, and he seems to have emerged as the D-backs' primary third baseman, at least during his recent hot streak. Tomas followed his first stolen base with a smart, aggressive base running play to score on a ground ball to third base against Colorado and he had his first three-RBI game Wednesday. His defense remains a work in progress, but he is making strides.
Watch them run
The D-backs are third in the National League with 19 stolen bases, and their 76 percent success rate is third in the league among teams that have attempted at least 20. Goldschmidt (five), Chris Owings (four) and Pollock (four) and Inciarte (three) are the ringleaders. The D-backs' base stealers meet with base running coach Dave McKay every day to go over the pitcher/catcher combinations and the probabilities of success. They shoot for 70 percent.
No big two
Neither Clayton Kershaw nor Zack Greinke is scheduled to start for the Dodgers this weekend, only the second time in 14 series since Greinke joined the Dodgers in 2013 that the D-backs miss both of them. Nothing against Carlos Frias, who replaced Brandon McCarthy in the rotation, or Scott Baker or Brett Anderson, but the D-backs should be able to work that to their advantage.
